Due to popular demand, Westcoast Adventure College is offering public workshops and courses based on our 8 month professional guiding program.

Our community courses offer opportunities to build your wilderness and leadership skills step by step. Take the leap and chose your own path. Our courses range from trip planning, wilderness navigation, survival skills, commercial marine courses and workshops on the ecology of the coastal environment.

All of our classes and workshops are designed for field based activities. We integrate theory with practical field application to prepare you for your adventurous life. Learn from passionate, certified, experienced and knowledgeable instructors that are leaders in their field. Our programs have a strong focus on safety, situational awareness and environmental protection.

Although our community courses offer great learning opportunities they are designed for personal development and not considered part of our professional guiding certificate. If you are interested in pursuing a career in adventure tourism, please check out our amazing

Many of our courses do provide industry certificates. Our commercial marine courses such as Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine VHF Radio Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC-M), Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) are all endorsed by Transport Canada and Canadian Coast Guard

Our ecology courses are partnered with the Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists and comes with a year membership.

Natural History of BC


Bring your interpretation skills up a level and get expert knowledge about the natural history of the BC coast. When out in nature, people want to learn about the environment they are travelling in. The more people understand nature the more connected they are to the land and the environment. Our immersion course covers the life and behaviours of plants and animals living along the coast of British Columbia including:

  • - marine mammals and birds
  • - marine invertebrates
  • - intertidal ecology
  • - kelp forest habitats
  • - coastal temperate rainforest ecology

    This course runs May 4-6 and June 30-July 1

    Small Vessel Operator Proficiency


    Want a head start over the competition for a job driving power boats? Get practical experience and training! Learn the skills from Transport Canada approved instructors. Our course is unique in offering all the classroom theory content but also includes a full day of practical training in a Transport Canada approved rigid hull passenger vessel. Sign up today.
