Our Competent Crew course provides the foundations you need to become a qualified member of any crew. This 5 day course covers the theory and practical skills needed to keep you and the rest of the crew safe onboard.
Topics:
- Parts of a sailboat
- Safe working practices and safety equipment
- Fundamentals of sailing (raising and lowering sails, maneuvers)
- Sail theory and points of sail (how a sailboat sails)
- Emergency situations and procedures
- Practical training will include fundamentals of sailing, general seamanship, emergency procedures, docking and anchoring.
Who should take this course:
Anyone looking to get into sailing or purchase their own sailboat. It is a foundational course to start your maritime adventures. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience is necessary!

Learn to sail with us! Our 5 day course will get you confident to be part of any crew with theory and practical training. This is offered using the International Power and Sail Academy training model and recognized globally. Course includes 2 days of theory and 3 days on the water.

On the water practical:
- Depart from Port Sidney
- Under current Covid 19 policies – day sailing unless private family groups

- ISPA approved instructor
- ISPA manual
- Logbook

What You Will Need:
- Waterproof outer layers (rain jacket and pants)
- Waterproof footwear
- Appropriate warm layers if it is cold/ rainy forecast (ex. mitts and toque)
- Snacks and lunch
- Water
- Face mask
- Personal hand sanitizer
- Hat
- Note-taking material
