Shelter Building

Shelter building is a fundamental skill for a guide anywhere in the world.  Tarps are light and versatile, making it a perfect fit for one of the 10 essential pieces of gear to bring in the backcountry. They can be set up in minutes to provide shelter from the elements. In order for our students to become experts in shelter set up, we camp only in tarps for the entire year. As part of our survival skills course we also learn the basics of natural shelter building.
